Earlier in September The Sanctuary Angels sent a £500 Angel Grant to Your Pet Food Bank, which was founded in 2021 to help people facing financial difficulties feed their pets without worry. We love their ethos about responsible pet ownership:
"One of our goals is to ensure that the pets of people facing financial hardship are not then made homeless or given to already-struggling animal shelters. Pets are an important part in many people's lives, and play the role of friend and companion as well as offering support. It is heartbreaking to think that people would have to make the decision to rehome their pet - and also upset a settled animal - when a bag of food could keep everyone happy and supported.
Your Pet Food Bank is only there to provide temporary support to enable the person to keep their pet, it is not to replace the owner providing pet food. If help is required for a long time, then we may offer support to help rehome the animal.
We also do not provide help to someone if they taken on a new pet when they know they are struggling, as we encourage responsible pet ownership."
Your Pet Food Bank works hard to build relationships with food banks and community centres, and makes sure there are frequent donations of pet food to support those in need. They also help small animal charities with donations of food when they can.
